National Programme for Estonian Language Technology

Overview of the National Programme.

The aim of the Programme is to improve language tecnology support of Estonian, and to achieve such a technological level that would help to survive in the technological world of today.

Research and development in natural language processing will be funded, started from language resources up to prototypes of applications.

In order to achieve the aims of the Programme, five type of actions will be funded:

  1. R&D to create new software;
  2. Projects for new language resources;
  3. Center of Estonian Language Resources;
  4. Projects for integrating language-specific software into other applications;
  5. Specially aimed projects.

The main difference between this Programme and the previous programme "Language Technology Support of Estonian (2006-2010)" is that the current Programme will pay more attention on NLP applications  and software prototypes, and to dissemination of available language resources.

Intellectual property created according to this Programme is covered with different types of user licenses for different purposes. The software and resources will be disseminated via Center of Estonian Language Resources.
